The BC Energy Step Code helps guide the construction of new homes and buildings in the province. Since 2017, the energy efficiency requirements for new homes has grown each year; the goal is to have net-zero emission homes being built for 2032. What is the BC Energy Step Code
The BC Energy Step Code is an optional compliance path in the BC Building Code that local governments can voluntarily adopt and use to incentivize or require higher levels of energy efficiency in new construction development. The BC Energy Step Code was introduced as a step-by-step building efficiency strategy designed to help meet the Provincial Government’s target of all new homes being net-zero energy ready by 2032.

CleanBC Better Homes New Construction Program
The CleanBC Better Homes New Construction Program provides rebates up to $15,000 for the construction of new, high-performance, electric homes. Through the CleanBC plan, the Province is supporting the adoption of the BC Energy Step Code and making energy efficient, climate-friendly homes more affordable and accessible for British Columbians.

CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program
British Columbians with eligible homes who are looking to improve energy efficiency through select upgrades. Applications are accepted after all work has been completed and final invoices have been paid. Learn more here.
CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program
B.C. homeowners with eligible homes where the total household income is within an established threshold. You must pre-register for this program before renovations begin. Learn more about the Energy Savings Program.
Canada Greener Homes Grant Program
Please note: The Canada Greener Homes Grant has closed the intake of new applicants as of February 12, 2024 at 5 PM EST. Homeowners who have already completed their online registration and have an application number are encouraged to proceed in a timely manner with their retrofits and will continue to be eligible for funding and support through the Canada Greener Homes portal.

Get the invoices you need to process your rebate

What CleanBC Better Homes deadlines should I be aware of ?
Rebates are processed based on the date of the invoice for the upgrade. You must apply for individual rebates within 6 months of the invoice date. Bonus and special offers have different deadlines.

How long does it take to receive my rebate?
It can take up 90 days to process a rebate application. If you application requires additional information or clarification, it can take longer to process so ensure you have everything you need when you submit an application.
